Psychotherapy

The PIB was founded in Duisburg in 1973 by Hans-Werner Gessmann and takes its name from the Castle Bergerhausen in Kerpen near Cologne, where it maintained a stationary therapy facility for female adolescents for over 12 years

At the Duisburg office, doctors, psychologists, psychotherapists, pedagogues as well as administrative employees and technical staff worked in a psychotherapeutic and sleep medicine outpatient clinic in the 90s. At the same time, several hundred specialists were trained in Humanistic Psychodrama and Systemic Family Therapy. In 2018, the PIB and its corporate office moved to Hamburg.

The PIB is one of the oldest private institutions in Germany, which conducts specialized training in psychosocial fields. The Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia has recognized the training institute on behalf of the psychotherapeutic-healing activity of graduate psychologists. The Landesprüfungsamt for Medicine & Pharmacy NRW recognized the completion of clinical electives as part of medical studies. The seminars in Hamburg are certified by the local Medical Counsil (and thus, by the Psychotherapists Council as well). In 2018, the first batch of the Executive Education - Humanistic Psychodrama was recognized by the IAC. The German Ministry of Social Affair and Health, Hamburg recognized PIB as professional training institute and gave Surplus Tax Exemption.
